A round serving platter made of wood, with a panel of black slate set into the center.
The platter is turned round, and the slate sits flush in the middle of it, matte and dark against the natural brown of the wood. A wooden handle is part of the same piece, with a hole drilled through it so the board can hang. Wood grain and slate coloring vary from one board to the next, so no two come out alike. One platter to an order.
With normal serving use, the slate surface resists wear.
Hand-wash it gently with mild soap, do not soak it or put it in a dishwasher, dry it promptly, and rub the wood with food-grade mineral oil now and then.
Set it out with cheese, bread, and sliced meat, and hang it by the handle when the table is cleared.
